This policy explains what personal information this website collects, why, and what I do with it. In short, the site collects your name and email address only if you request my CV or one of my guides, and I use them only to reply to you. If you email me about mentoring, I use what you send only to mentor you.
Who I am
This website belongs to Sheikh Abbas Bin Mohd, based in Glasgow, United Kingdom. I am responsible for any personal information collected through it. You can contact me about your information at contact@abbasbinmohd.com.
CV and guide requests
If you use the CV form on my Contact page, or the request form on one of my guides, I receive your name and email address. I use them only to respond to your request. I rely on your consent, which you give by ticking the box on the form. I will not add you to a mailing list or share your details with anyone.
The request is sent to my email inbox, and a copy is stored in this website’s database so that I can keep track of requests. The stored copy also records the date and time, your IP address and your browser type, which help me spot spam. I delete both the email and the stored copy 12 months after I receive them.
Mentoring
If you email me about mentoring, I receive your name, your email address and whatever you choose to include, such as details of your studies and drafts of your application documents. I use this information only to reply to you and, if we work together, to mentor you, because you have asked me to.
Please do not send passport details, financial documents, health information or other sensitive information. I keep your emails and drafts only while I am mentoring you, and delete them within 12 months after the mentoring ends. I do not share them with universities, scholarship bodies or anyone else.
Server and security logs
Like most websites, my hosting provider keeps standard server logs, such as IP addresses, browser type and the pages requested. These are used to keep the site secure and running, and are kept for a limited period. A security plugin also records the IP address of failed attempts to log in to the site’s admin area, so that attacks can be blocked.
Visitor statistics
I use a privacy-friendly statistics plugin, Koko Analytics, to see how many people visit the site, which pages they read and which website or social media link brought them here. It runs on this website’s own server and works without cookies. It records only totals and does not keep a record of who you are. Nothing is sent to any other company, and my own visits are not counted.
Cookies
This website does not use advertising or tracking cookies. The site follows your device’s light or dark setting without saving anything. My hosting provider’s security system may occasionally run a browser check and set a short-lived cookie to confirm that you are not an automated program.
Who else handles your information
My website host and email provider (both Namecheap) store your information on my behalf. I do not sell your information or share it with anyone else.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law, you can:
- ask for a copy of the information I hold about you;
- ask me to correct or delete it;
- object to how I use it;
- withdraw your consent at any time.
To do any of these, email contact@abbasbinmohd.com. If you are unhappy with how I have handled your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.
Changes to this policy
If the website starts collecting anything new, for example through a new form or service, I will update this policy and change the date at the top.
